World Industries was established in 1987 by professional skateboarders Steve Rocco and Rodney Mullen.

 

The 2 pros took the skate world be surprise with the irreverent and sarcastic filled ads targeted directly at the ‘Big 3’ skate companies: G&S, Powell Peralta and Vision Street Wear. With plans to single handedly overthrow the stale and stagnant skateboard industry. World Industries quickly emerged the victor.

Since then, World Industries has been credited as the brand the redefined skateboarding into a street cultured activity, which in turn drove skateboarding into massive growth that continues through to today.

 

 

Steve's antics and entrepreneurial impact on the skateboard business are huge and have ultimately had a significant influence on broader mainstream culture as Steve is the man who gave Spike Jonze his first directing gig, discovered Jason Lee and created Big Brother Magazine which became the genesis of Jackass.
